Meet Stacey Schaefer
What made you want to get involved with HybridChart?
For the past 20 years, I have been working with providers within out-patient and in-patient practices. My passion is finding easy solutions and tools for physicians that enable them to have a better work-life balance. They didn’t go to medical school to do all the things we require them to do; they simply want to take care of patients. So, when I met Dr. Sanders with HybridChart—it was really easy to get on-board with this company because this tool does exactly that! It saves providers time and enables them to get some major tasks accomplished safely both for them and their practice.
What is a common struggle you saw before people started using HybridChart?
I’m actually surprised that either HIPAA or some other regulatory agency hasn’t abolished paper-pencil tracking yet. The paper charges can easily be lost or left inadvertently in lab coats to end up at the dry cleaners or randomly thrown away. This is risky in that we could be compromising patient data and also places the practice at risk for routinely missing charges. I think in the near future, a safer more secure way will be mandated.
What is your favorite thing to do on the weekends?
I played varsity golf in high school and still love the game today. Erik and I are exploring the courses in Arizona one course at a time. We also love riding our bikes and try to ride daily….Having moved from South Dakota to Arizona a 1 ½ years ago, I am enjoying all the things a larger city has to offer—great restaurants, concerts and shopping.
What book are you reading right now?
Every year, about this time, I re-read “The 7 Habits of Highly Successful People”. I find this book centers me on my approach to my career and working with people. I try and strategize this habits into how I perform in my job.
What is your favorite holiday tradition?
I always look forward to Christmas day brunch at my parent’s home. My mom makes the same thing every year—Orange Julius’s, caramel rolls and a delicious egg dish.
What is your favorite quote?
My mom always said, “If you are going to do something, do it well and right the first time or don’t do it at all”. I think of this quote often and try to adhere to it.
If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would you go?
My girls, Morgan, 20 and Kenzie, 18 and I are scuba divers. On our bucket list is Bora Bora. We hope to get there soon and would love to stay in a hut that is on the ocean.
What are some of the downsides you’ve seen when people still use a paper charge capture system?
The downsides are the chance for missed charges, lost charge sheets and wasting time. Once providers learn how easy it is, those risks no longer exist. And they save time—physicians love saving time.
What makes you excited about the future of HybridChart for healthcare providers?
I do think in the future that paper charges will not be allowed. This is the direction of healthcare. So, this places our tool in the “required” column rather than the “need/want” column. What’s exciting about this is HybridChart’s tool is easy. 15 seconds to enter a patient name and the provider can get going with charges. Other tools require more data to get started—so, HybridChart is an easy transition from paper charges.
